A One-Sentence Story
I enjoy these stories. Mostly because of the rules they break. I seem to recall my HS teachers preaching the evils of long run-on sentences.

Excellent commentary. You should try the opposite. Write a story made up entirely of 1-word sentences.
Do I notice a trace of reality in this? I can picture this barefoot boy/man so clearly.
